Landsail winter tyre range expands with three new models

Landsail is preparing to expand its winter tyre range with three new models. The additions include the Polar Dragon Soft, a Nordic studless tyre; the IceDragon, a studded passenger-car tyre; and the IceDragon Van, developed for vans and light commercial vehicles.

Together, the three models cover the main winter tyre needs of Nordic drivers: a studless passenger-car tyre, a studded passenger-car tyre with 24 stud contact rows, and a reinforced studded tyre for commercial vans. All three models have been developed for cold, snowy and icy road conditions.

Landsail IceDragon Van – a new studded tyre built for everyday commercial use

A van’s working day does not depend on whether the roads are dry, snowy or covered with ice. Its tyres must cope with the weight of the vehicle and its cargo, manage frequent stopping and starting, and maintain grip across a wide range of winter surfaces.

To meet these demands, Landsail has developed the IceDragon Van, a new studded tyre for vans and light commercial vehicles. The model will soon join the Rehvid Pluss winter tyre range.

Although its name links it to the passenger-car IceDragon, the Van is not simply a larger version of the same tyre. It has its own tread design and a reinforced construction developed around the higher weight and load requirements of commercial vehicles.

Coming soon: Landsail IceDragon – a 24-row studded tyre for Nordic winters

A new passenger-car studded tyre is joining the Landsail winter tyre range. The IceDragon has been developed for demanding Nordic winter conditions, with a strong focus on dependable ice grip.

Its key feature is a stud layout that creates 24 separate contact rows across the tread. Combined with dense wave-shaped siping and a directional V-shaped pattern, this gives the tyre the tools needed for ice, packed snow, loose snow and slush.

New Landsail PolarDragon Soft – a Nordic studless winter tyre for ice and snow

Landsail is expanding its winter tyre range with the new PolarDragon Soft. This Nordic studless winter tyre has been developed for low temperatures and demanding winter roads, combining a flexible rubber compound with dense siping and a directional tread pattern.

The word “Soft” in the model name reflects the tyre’s softer winter compound. It is designed to remain flexible in freezing temperatures, allowing the tread to adapt more effectively to the road surface and create additional biting edges on snow and ice.

Although the law allows driving with a minimum tread depth of 1.6 mm, tire tests conducted by ADAC, one of Europe’s best-known automobile clubs, show that tire grip on wet roads starts to deteriorate well before reaching this limit. For this reason, many tire manufacturers and experts recommend replacing summer tires when the tread depth reaches approximately 3 mm.

The spring tire-change season has now come to an end, making it a good time to review which summer tires drivers preferred most in 2026.

Every spring, drivers ask the same question: when is the right time to switch from winter tires to summer tires? The answer depends not only on the calendar. Both legal requirements and actual weather conditions play an important role.

What Does the Law Say?

In Estonia, the use of winter tires is mandatory from December 1 to March 1. Studded tires are allowed from October 1 to March 31.

If weather conditions require it, studded tires may be used until April 30.This means that, according to the law, summer tires can technically be installed already at the beginning of March. However, in practice this is not always the most sensible decision.
