The History of Nokian Tires
Nokian’s roots date back to 1898. Originally founded as a rubber manufacturing company, it entered tire production in 1932. Winter tires quickly became a core focus of the business. In 1934, the company introduced the world’s first winter tire designed specifically for trucks. Just two years later, Nokian launched the first Hakkapeliitta winter tire.
During the 1990s, the company was listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange. In the early 2000s, the world’s largest tire manufacturer, Bridgestone, acquired a stake in the company. While Bridgestone agreed not to interfere with Nokian’s operations, the companies collaborated on testing and the development of new technologies. Today, Nokian employs more than 4,700 people, operates three manufacturing plants and three testing centers, and sells its products in over 60 countries worldwide.
