Continental’s history dates back to 1871, when the company was founded in Hanover, Germany. Initially focused on rubber products, Continental soon expanded into tire manufacturing and quickly built a reputation for producing high-quality tires for both large and small vehicles.
In 1901, Continental tires were fitted to Karl Benz’s first Mercedes automobile, which went on to win the Nice–Salon–Nice race. Just a few years later, in 1904, Continental introduced the world’s first patented tread-pattern tire, marking another major milestone in tire development.
